9 Great Things to Believe In
16 August 2026
The Christian life begins and continues through God's grace. We are not saved by our efforts, achievements, or ability to get everything right. Instead, God reaches toward us in love, offering forgiveness, new life, and a restored relationship through Jesus Christ. In this study, we will explore how God's grace is demonstrated through the cross, how we respond in faith, and what it means to live each day as recipients of His grace.
Looking Back
Centre the Group
Take two minutes of silence together. Invite everyone to place their hands open on their lap as a physical reminder that salvation is received, not earned. After the silence, read aloud:
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)
Reflection Questions
- Over the past fortnight, where have you seen evidence of God's grace in your life?
- Have there been any moments recently where you found yourself relying more on your own efforts than on God's grace? What did that reveal to you?
Looking Up
Read Together
Read Romans 5:8 and Acts 2:38 aloud as a group.
Romans 5:8
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Acts 2:38
"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"
Discussion Questions
- What do these passages teach us about God's initiative in salvation?
- Romans 5:8 says Christ died for us while we were still sinners. What does this reveal about the nature of God's love and grace?
- In Acts 2:38, Peter calls people to repent and be baptized. How do repentance and faith relate to God's grace?
- What is the significance of the Holy Spirit being described as a gift? How does this deepen our understanding of grace?
Optional Resource
Watch the BibleProject video on "Grace" or "The Gospel" before discussing the questions. As you watch, consider how God's grace changes both our standing before Him and our daily lives.
Looking Ahead
Next Steps
- Is there an area of your life where you are trying to earn God's approval rather than resting in His grace? What would it look like to trust Him more fully?
- How can you respond to God's grace this week through repentance, obedience, or sharing your faith with someone else?
- If salvation is a gift received through faith, how should that shape the way you view and treat other people?
Challenge for the Week
Each day this week, spend a few moments thanking God specifically for His grace. Ask Him to help you live from a place of gratitude rather than striving.
Prayer
Father, thank You for demonstrating Your love through Jesus Christ. Thank You that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Help us to receive Your grace with humble faith, to turn from sin through repentance, and to walk in the power of Your Holy Spirit. Teach us to rest in what You have done for us rather than what we can do for ourselves. May our lives reflect the grace we have received and point others toward Your love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
