9 Great things to Believe In
23 August 2026
The Bible is far more than an ancient collection of writings—it is God's living and active Word that reveals His character, shapes His people, and points us to Jesus. In this series, we'll explore how Scripture transforms our hearts, guides our lives, and equips us to follow Christ faithfully. As we devote ourselves to God's Word together, we discover that it is not merely information to be learned, but truth that brings life and transformation.
Looking Back
Centering Activity
Begin by sitting quietly together for one minute. Invite each person to slowly read Psalm 119:105 aloud:
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
After a moment of silence, ask God to speak through His Word during your time together.
Reflection Questions
- Where have you seen God at work in your life over the past fortnight?
- Has there been a particular Bible verse, sermon, devotion, or conversation that God has used to encourage, challenge, or guide you recently?
Looking Up
Read Together
- Hebrews 4:12
- Acts 2:42
Discussion Questions
- According to Hebrews 4:12, what words or phrases stand out to you about the nature of God's Word? What do they reveal about Scripture?
- The writer describes God's Word as "living and active." What do you think it means for the Bible to be alive rather than simply a historical document?
- Acts 2:42 says that the early church "devoted themselves" to the apostles' teaching. What does devotion to God's Word look like in our lives today?
- Why do you think Scripture was such a central part of the life and growth of the early church? What happens when believers neglect God's Word?
Optional Resource
Watch the BibleProject video: "What is the Bible?" before or during your discussion. Reflect on how it helps you understand Scripture as God's unified story that leads to Jesus.
Looking Ahead
Application Questions
- What is one way God might be inviting you to engage more intentionally with His Word this week?
- Are there any distractions, habits, or challenges that keep you from regularly reading and reflecting on Scripture? What practical step could help you overcome them?
- If God's Word is truly living and active, where do you need to allow it to shape your thinking, attitudes, or actions right now?
Challenge
Set aside at least ten minutes each day this week to read a portion of Scripture and ask:
- What does this teach me about God?
- What does this reveal about me?
- How is God inviting me to respond?
Come prepared next gathering to share something God highlighted through His Word.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving us Your living and active Word. Thank You that through Scripture You reveal Yourself, shape our hearts, and lead us closer to Jesus. Give us a hunger for Your Word and help us to be people who are devoted to hearing, understanding, and obeying it. By Your Spirit, make Your truth come alive in us and transform us to become more like Christ. May Your Word guide our steps and strengthen our faith each day.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
