Way of the Wise | Week 10
Way of the Wise
13 July 2026
This series explores the pursuit and value of God's wisdom. Proverbs teaches that wisdom is not simply knowledge, but a way of living that shapes our hearts, decisions, and relationships. As we seek God's wisdom, we discover a deeper life marked by understanding, peace, and joy.
Looking Back
Centering Activity:
Invite the group to sit quietly for a moment. Then slowly read this verse aloud twice:
"Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding." (Proverbs 3:13)
Encourage everyone to reflect silently on the word "blessed" and what it means in their life right now.
Reflection Questions:
- Over the past two weeks, when have you intentionally sought God's wisdom in a decision or situation? What happened?
- Where have you felt either peace or tension in your spiritual life recently, and what might that be revealing?
Looking Up
Scripture Reading:
Read aloud together: Proverbs 2:1–10; 3:13–18
Discussion Questions:
- In Proverbs 2:1–5, what actions are we encouraged to take in order to gain wisdom? Which of these stands out to you most?
- According to Proverbs 2:6–10, what role does God play in giving wisdom, and what impact does that have on our hearts and lives?
- Proverbs 3:13–18 describes wisdom as more valuable than riches. Why do you think wisdom is portrayed this way? Do you truly see it as that valuable?
- Verse 18 calls wisdom "a tree of life." What do you think this image means, and how might wisdom bring life to us and others?
Optional Resource:
To deepen understanding, consider watching a short overview of Proverbs (search: "Bible Project Proverbs overview" on YouTube). It provides helpful context about how wisdom literature works in the Bible.
Looking Ahead
Application Questions:
- What is one practical way you can actively pursue wisdom this week (e.g. prayer, Scripture reading, seeking advice)?
- Is there an area where you've been chasing success, comfort, or control instead of wisdom? What would it look like to shift your focus?
- How can you allow God's wisdom to shape not just your decisions, but your character and attitudes this week?
Prayer
Lord God,
Thank You that You are the source of all wisdom. Help us to seek it wholeheartedly, to treasure it above all else, and to trust that Your ways lead to life. Shape our hearts so that wisdom takes root within us and overflows into our words and actions. Guide us in every decision, and draw us closer to You as we walk in Your truth.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
