Way of the Wise | Week 11

The book of Proverbs offers timeless wisdom for everyday life. Through practical instruction and godly insight, Proverbs teaches us how to walk in the fear of the Lord, make wise decisions, cultivate healthy relationships, and live lives that honour God. In this series, we will explore how God's wisdom shapes our hearts, words, work, and worship, helping us become more like Jesus in every area of life.

Looking Back

Centreing Activity

Take a moment of silence together and slowly read Proverbs 3:5–6 aloud twice. After the second reading, invite everyone to sit quietly for one minute, reflecting on the phrase: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart."

Reflection Questions

  1. Over the past fortnight, where have you found it easiest to trust God? What helped you do so?
  2. Have there been any situations recently where you struggled to trust God or relied primarily on your own understanding? What did you learn from that experience?

Looking Up

Read Together

Read Proverbs 3:5–10 aloud as a group.

Discussion Questions

  1. What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage? Why do you think they capture your attention?
  2. What does it practically look like to "trust in the Lord with all your heart" rather than lean on your own understanding?
  3. Verse 6 says, "In all your ways submit to him." What areas of life are often hardest for people to surrender to God?
  4. Verses 9–10 connect honouring God with our resources and possessions. What do these verses teach us about worship, generosity, and trust?

Optional Resource

Watch the BibleProject video on Proverbs before or after your discussion. It provides a helpful overview of the book and its themes of wisdom and godly living.

Looking Ahead

Application Questions

  1. Is there a particular area of your life right now where God is inviting you to trust Him more fully? What would that trust look like in practice this week?
  2. What is one way you can acknowledge God in your daily decisions over the next fortnight?
  3. How might honouring God with your time, abilities, finances, or possessions deepen your trust in Him?

Encourage each person to share one practical step they will take before your next gathering.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are trustworthy, wise, and faithful in all Your ways. Forgive us for the times we rely on our own understanding instead of seeking You. Help us to trust You with all our hearts and to acknowledge You in every area of our lives. Teach us to honour You with everything You have entrusted to us, and shape us into people who walk in Your wisdom each day. May our lives point others to You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
