Way of the Wise | Week 8
Way of the Wise
28 June 2026
This series explores biblical wisdom and how our reverence and delight in God is the starting point that'll shape wisdom in us. The book of Proverbs covers many areas and can help us as we make decisions about relationships, stewardship, our own integrity and diligence, work and focus.
Looking Back
To centre the group, invite everyone to pause for a moment of stillness. Reflect on the past week and think on where they have felt disciplined and focussed with work and where they have struggled and drifted. Either listen to the song "Build my life" by Pat Barrett or pray together: Lord, help us to build our lives upon Your love, it is a firm foundation. Amen.
Reflection Questions:
- Over the last week, where have you worked hard and has there been a time when you chose not to?
- How have you included God in your focus, goals and work?
Looking Up
Read together: Proverbs 6:6-11, 10:4-5, 21:5
- What lessons can we learn from the ant compared to the lazy person?
- What wisdom is there in knowing the season you are in, knowing the right time for work, opportunities and rest?
- How are discipline and diligence better than shortcuts in your experience?
Our culture celebrates busyness and rest is often neglected, yet being busy isn't the same as being fruitful. Jesus modelled a rhythm of time with God, faithful work and intentional rest. Read Mark 1:35-39, 6:31. What stands out to you from the way Jesus modelled prayer, work, focus and rest?
Looking Ahead
- Diligence is defined as careful, persistent and dedicated effort. In what area of your life do you want to be more diligent and what could be the first step?
- Jesus' invitation was "Come with Me by yourself to a quiet place and get some rest". When will you make time to respond to this invitation this week?
- Is there anything else that has stood out to you from the Bible readings and what action is the Holy Spirit prompting?
Prayer
Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom and discipline to make the right choices, the strength to overcome challenges and remain diligent and the grace to remain humble. Bless the work of our hands, open doors of opportunity and guide our steps towards a purpose filled, focused and fruitful life that honours you. Amen.
